Investment Options

Flexibility in how your pension is invested

One of the key features of a Small Self-Administered Scheme (SSAS) is the flexibility it can offer in how pension funds are invested.

Subject to the relevant rules and the responsibilities of the trustees, a SSAS can invest in a range of permitted assets, including cash deposits, shares, collective investment funds and commercial property. Property may be leased to the sponsoring business or to an unrelated tenant on commercial terms.

This flexibility allows members to consider investment opportunities in the context of their wider retirement objectives, working with their chosen professional advisers where appropriate.

Independent access to investment opportunities

Highstone is independently owned and is not tied to any particular investment provider or manager. Members can work with their existing advisers or, where appropriate, we can help put them in touch with investment managers or advisers whose services may be relevant to their requirements.

We can explain the administrative requirements and pension scheme rules associated with different types of investment, helping members and their advisers understand the processes involved.

Understanding the responsibilities and risks

The trustees are responsible for making investment decisions in accordance with the scheme's trust deed and rules and their duties as trustees.

Investments carry different levels of risk, and some may be difficult to sell quickly when funds are needed. Trustees should consider the scheme's circumstances, the needs of its members and the importance of appropriate diversification when making investment decisions.

Highstone does not provide investment advice. Our role is to provide independent trustee and administration services, supporting the proper operation of the scheme and working alongside members and their professional advisers.
